Why the DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The move by the DNC to block the public viewing regarding its own post-election analysis on the last presidential race appears stunning however not surprising. Opposed to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus behaves closer to a publicity machine rather than an electoral entity focused on cultivating grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment of Conformity

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has stayed under the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy might have shown that party leaders truly desire to encourage public discourse regarding the errors which allowed the former president to return to the White House. However, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there's nothing to be learned from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a justification which was presented for withholding the document.

Critical Problems a Report Might Have Explored

An autopsy report of substance would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election became a critical factor in the narrowly decided 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn decision by the incumbent to seek re-election, and a very late withdrawal, is viewed as robbing Democratic voters the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort is criticized for ceding to powerful financial backers and not managing to address the effects of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: The failure to adjust an approach on a major international conflict allegedly caused alienating many voters, particularly with young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Youth Backing: Research shows a major decline of Democratic support from young voters.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal aligns with a longstanding habit of sidestepping hard truths. It recalls a dynamic in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Congress went along with an incumbent's determination to running for re-election right up until a catastrophic campaign event compelled a change.

Meanwhile, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been repeatedly informing pollsters that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Questions

An honest autopsy might also investigate matters about where money went, including how much money were directed to party strategists and media firms during an electoral effort that managed to spend a colossal amount during the general election.

The Larger Implication

At its core, the suppression regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference toward party leaders that oversaw an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The implication to rank-and-file members – which includes millions of small donors – appears to be that they cannot have a right to understand the lessons party chiefs have learned from hundreds of interviews drawing from feedback from all states.

A party unable to critically review its own failings is unlikely to climb out of the cycle that ended up being so beneficial to their opponents.
