The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
