Cars in German City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police mentioned they were alerted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
